Listen. As mom and entrepreneurs, we’re expected to do SO much… and then do some more. Our work is never truly done, and we never (or very rarely) get a “day off” the way we used to before we ran a household and a business.

When you thought about becoming a business owner, were you eager to have endless inbox messages waiting for your response? Did you daydream about working late into the night while shoveling takeout into your mouth because you forgot to shop for groceries?

Of course not! You wanted to do something you love and you wanted the rest of your life to benefit from it. You longed to have more flexibility in your schedule, a more fulfilled spirit, and more autonomy over your work. So how did it end up so wrong?

Many of us have the misguided belief that in order to be a “boss” we have to hustle, drown ourselves in work, and basically live inside our business 24/7/365. Because of this belief, we’re depriving ourselves of the joy, pleasure, and white space that we deserve as human beings!

Running on Empty

So many business owners are running on empty and yet, they are still doing more (at home and in their business) to prove that they can handle it all. What are we doing this for? Where does it stop? There are a few reasons why I think this is happening:

  1. We’re not delegating enough of our work, so we are drowning in it.
  2. We’re trying to prove that our business is successful by constantly hustling.
  3. We’re falling into the comparison trap by measuring ourselves against someone else.
  4. We’re measuring our worth by how much we get done in a day.
  5. We’re demonizing rest and self-care, perhaps subconsciously, because it feels weak.

These beliefs are all based on lies that are at best, exhausting and at worst, harmful for our mental health, relationships, and even physical wellbeing.

It Doesn’t Have To Be This Way!

Think about how amazing it would feel to take an afternoon off to allow yourself a much-needed spa day or even a quiet day of reading — *gasp* — for pleasure? Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to take a “CEO day” to reframe and innovate without being constantly worried about the fallout? You can do these things, and you SHOULD do them.

Most of us can attest that we’re better people when we’re not wearing all the hats. A proper structure (both of your business and your day-to-day routine), more focus, and taking some time to pinpoint your personal “zone of genius” can help!

Your Zone of Genius

My goal whenever I work with a client is to immediately work on pinpointing their zone of genius. This is a task or group of tasks that they excel at, the things they were MADE to do. These are tasks they would never dream of outsourcing or delegating because they are so good at them. For you, it’s probably the thing you pictured yourself doing whenever you were thinking about becoming an entrepreneur.

By focusing on what matters to you, it makes it so much easier to ask for help with the rest. For example, you can outsource customer service issues or data entry. Most likely, those aren’t the things that get you excited to hit the ground running each day. Your time and energy are valuable and limited. You absolutely need to be spending it where it matters and where you can make the biggest impact.

When you embrace this way of doing business, you will gain freedom of time, money, relationships and purpose. It’s as simple as that.

Does this sound like the reframe you need right now? I’m here and I am waiting to help you! I turn overworked and overburdened entrepreneurs into the fearless leaders they know they can be, and I can help you grow a business that truly sets you free to live (and enjoy) your life. Sound good?
