I think I can safely say that most of us haven’t prepared our businesses for a global pandemic. Who would even think to do that? While I typically like to write more “evergreen” blogs, I thought it would be helpful to put together a few of my top tips for entrepreneurs who are trying to keep their businesses going during this uncertain time.

I believe that you work best when your businesses are flexible, scalable, and fun. Even though everything is a little bit scary, I still think these three things should be the main focus. Here are a few tips to help you run your business today so you can have a thriving business tomorrow:

Tip #1: Get Flexible – Explore That New Idea

Let’s face it, you probably have some extra time these days. Now is the perfect opportunity to explore that new idea you had but didn’t have time for.

  • Take a peek at how others in your industry are pivoting. This might spark an idea that you could explore further.
  • Look at what your city needs right now. Is there a way for you to step in to fill that need while introducing new people to your business at the same time?
  • Are you a service-based business? Think about whether there’s an avenue for you to offer some kind of online product. Maybe that’s something as simple as an ebook, or maybe it’s an online course or subscription service. Go ahead and think outside of the normal box you put your business in.

Tip #2: Get Scalable – Work on Your Systems

Has your business been a little bit… messy lately? As a success coach, one of my favorite things to do is go into someone else’s business and get all the systems organized and streamlined. Now’s a great time to do that in your own business!

  • Do you have Standard Operating Procedures in place? You won’t believe how much perspective you’ll get from creating step-by-step instructions that describe how to perform certain tasks… plus it will save you time when you hire new people in the future.
  • Take a look at the big picture of your business. What is your main goal? Break that big goal down to daily tasks so you can get where you want to go!
  • Now is a great time to create an organizational chart with roles and responsibilities for your team. Create a light version that is “work from home” friendly so they know what you expect during this “safer at home” period.

Tip #3: Have Fun – Serve Your People

Unless you work in an industry that isn’t impacted by the coronavirus and its impact on the economy, you’re going to have to work a little bit harder to really serve your people and get that sale. Here are some ways you can grab their attention right now:

  • Get in front of the camera and connect with people! This can be scary, but try doing a video post or even a live video on social media. Show up and serve your people in a different way.
  • Join an online mastermind or networking group and get new ideas. This might be something you wouldn’t normally have time for, but now you might. Shameless plug, my Women Entrepreneurs Scaling Up Facebook Group is a great place to start!
  • Get creative with your online copy. Everyone is online and people have a lot more time these days to really read every word. Update your website copy and write great emails that grab their attention and make them take notice.

I believe we will get through this time stronger than ever. If you have tough days where doing anything I’ve listed above feels impossible, that’s okay. Please give yourself grace. Remember that you don’t have to constantly be hustling and producing in order to have value. If you need help or clarity during this time, I am here for you!
