Do you have an accountability partner for your business? This is a concept that many entrepreneurs and business owners never even consider, but I have seen first-hand how big of a difference it can make. If you’ve ever had an accountability partner for your workouts, you can probably imagine what I mean!
Whether you have a business bestie, a business coach or you belong to a local group of like-minded business owners, the accountability and support that you receive can really help you avoid panicking or falling off the wagon when it comes to your long-term vision and goals.
So, how do you know which option is best for you? Let’s dive into each one so you can pinpoint where you’re at and what you need most right now:
The Business Bestie
Running a business can get lonely, especially for solopreneurs. Having a business bestie is so helpful — especially in the beginning — as you grow and run into obstacles that you need help navigating. Just like your real best friend, your business bestie will be there to celebrate your wins, hear you as you vent about your frustrations, and support you through the periods of hard work and sacrifice that inevitably come with business ownership.
So how do you find one? Join some local entrepreneur groups and network with people in person or online. You’re not going to connect on a deeper level with everyone you meet, but if (and when) you do meet someone who clicks with you, don’t let that relationship slip away. Meet up for coffee, even if it’s virtual, and share openly with them. Find ways that you can check in on each other and hold each other accountable. You’ll be amazed at how much this friendship can help you reach your business goals.
The Business Coach
Looking for something a little more structured and formal? A business coach might be the perfect accountability partner for you. They can help you plan and execute your biggest goals, keeping your vision and mission in mind. Unlike a business bestie, they’re willing and ready to dive headfirst into your business and give you tons of attention and personalized support.
The nice thing about a business coach is you have the ability to structure the relationship in a way that works best for you. For example, if you’re planning a big product launch in 180 days, you can hire someone who is prepared to help you extensively leading up to the launch. After, you may just want a monthly check-in. Whatever you need, the right business coach can provide.
The Mastermind Group
I’ve been to a few conferences lately and one thing I keep hearing is that mastermind groups are the next big thing. The truth is, they’ve been around a while but I think people are taking more notice now since we’re seeing such a big increase in entrepreneurship.
So what is a mastermind group? It’s a small group of people who meet regularly to share their ideas, goals, contacts, and resources. It’s a great way to tap into other people’s experiences, knowledge, and networks to reach that next level in your business. It’s the secret sauce behind some of the most successful people out there, including Napoleon Hill, Henry Ford, and Andrew Carnegie.
These days, mastermind groups can function completely online, which also helps you connect with people who are on your level. This isn’t always possible when you’re limited to the people in your local community. If you’re curious about joining a mastermind, do some research online and see if any of the people you admire and follow have recommendations of good ones to join!
