“I think it’s going to be ok.”
Do you say this?
Yes, you do. Don’t kid yourself. I heard you say it.
No joke. I hear this time and time again with the clients I work with — whether it’s related to resourcing, calendar control, internal project work or client work.
It’s one of those phrases that just seems to roll off of our tongues.
We all do it.
It’s natural.
It makes us feel better to hear it.
Even to say it.
The trouble is that sometimes, it’s not really true.
When we say “I think everything will be ok”, it sounds as if things will fix themselves.
And, it almost takes away the responsibility of the person saying it.
When you scraped your knee or bumped your head as a child and your mom said you’ll be ok; that’s acceptable.
When your calendar is out of control or you don’t have a clear vision or a 90-day plan for where you are going in your business and what to work on next, those are examples of when it’s really not ok.
Focus
As a business owner, you don’t want to fail because you continued to work hard, or even harder at the wrong things.
Focused business owners are prepared. They are clear about what to be working on next. They are able to get more done in less time. They can confidently hand-off work to people who are capable of doing the work. They focus on data to help make sound decisions.
Another characteristic of a focused business owner is the ability to remain calm under pressure and give themselves the time to think.
Times Up
I’m here to tell you some good news–or maybe it’s bad news for some.
It’s time. Time to step.it.up.
No one is going to fix it for you.
When you’re growing your business and growing your team, the time for sitting back safely, thinking it’s going to be ok in the end is over. It’s time to be the CEO you are meant to be.
You don’t want to get into panic mode. You need a plan. You need processes. You need structure. You need more.
It’s time to get better, step forward, gain some momentum, expect more, and be better.
It’s about the execution, even if you have some doubt.
Move forward.
I work with focused clients. Ones who know they have a problem and are prepared to step back, work out the problem and then execute on it.
This may be tough for some, but it’s better than the alternatives.
